How to Fit Lots of Clothes in a Very Small Closet

admin

Do you have too many clothes and not enough closet space? Do you daydream all the time about having more space in your closet to place your clothes?

Well, youre not alone. A recent survey found that 50 percent of peoplewould give up sex for more closet space! And, 20 percent of people say they would take a pay cut for 6 months for more space in their closet.

While practically everyone could use some more closet space, what many people dont know is that you dont need to give up money or sex to have a closet that can hold all of your stuff. You also dont need to bash a hole in your wall.

So, what can you do?

There are actually a number of simple ways you can fit lots of clothes in a very small closet. Read on to find out how.

Invest in Cascading Hooks

Forget about the standard hooks you buy to hang your clothes on. Its time to throw those out and invest in some cascading hooks.

A cascading hook is basically 5 hooks in one. Below the main hook that hangs on the closet rod are 4 more hooks where you can hang more pants and shirts. If you have a decent amount of vertical space in your closet, cascading hooks are the perfect solution.

Plus, theyre extremely affordable.

Add an Extender Rod

If your closet is roomy enough, its also a good idea to add an extender rod behind the rod that is already built into your closet.

Extender rods can be purchased at pretty much any department store for around $30.

All you have to do is stretch out the extender rod to the length of your closet, and voila! You now have double the closet space.

Hooks, Hooks, and More Hooks

Chances are, your bedroom closet doesnt come with too many built-in hooks. But that shouldnt stop you from adding more.

When it comes to finding more space for clothes, hooks are going to be your new best friend.

You can place hooks on the inside of your closet door, giving you space to hang scarves, jackets, purses, and more. If you want to get really creative, you can even tie shoelaces together and hang those from hooks.

And, you dont have to limit yourself to hanging hooks on the inside of your closet door. You can also place hooks over the closet door, inside the closet walls pretty much anywhere there is empty space, you can hang hooks!

Be Smart About Shoes

Its estimated that the average female owns 27 pairs of shoes, and the average male owns 12.

While cutting down on your shoe collection is, of course, one option, why do that when you can just be smarter about the way you store your shoes?

One of the best things to do is to invest in a shoe rack. Although shoe racks can definitely take up a lot of space, they do allow you to stack your shoes in layers. This will prevent you from spreading your shoes all over your closet floor.

If you dont like the idea of your shoes taking up all of your floor space, you can also place the shoe rack on a shelf.

Another great option is to purchase a shoe hanger. These are hangers that you can either hang over your closet door or on the rod inside your closet. Each hanger comes with around 20 or so pockets where you can place your shoes in.

For shoe fanatics, shoe hangers and shoe racks are two great options that will free up a ton of closet space.

Think Outside the Closet

Take a good look at your closet, then ask yourself, How much of this stuff actually needs to be in here?

Chances are, you have at least a handful of clothing items that are out of season that could be stored somewhere else. And, youll also probably find that you have some things in your closet that arent clothes at all, but rather just junk that you shoved in there to be dealt with at a later date.

Take some time to remove all of the out-of-season items and store them in tubs or boxes that can be placed either under the bed or in the basement. Remove all the junk and either find a place for it or donate it.

And, try to pick out items that could fit well in other closet spaces throughout the house. For example, maybe you could move some of your coats to the closet next to the front door.

Fold Like a Pro

Theres a good chance that you could be folding your clothes in a much more efficient manner.

First things first, make sure you are folding all of your knit items, as this will help prevent hanger bump. This includes t-shirts, sweaters, and even some blouses.

Also, if you have a dresser or any other drawers placed in your closet, be sure to stack your clothes vertically rather than horizontally. This simple trick will save a ton of space. In fact, you should take the time to go through your whole room and fold all of your clothing items this way.

Also, if you have shelves in your closet that you store folded clothes on, invest in a shelf divider. This will prevent shirts and sweaters from falling over.
